Tying in our library theme of READ All Over with this years school theme of the POWER of TEAM, we invite staff, students, and even parents and other siblings, to join the READ Team!

Through books, the READ Team will travel all over the world and beyond. The Team actually has a goal (as most teams do). Ours was to be on the go every hour of every day between the first day of school and May 25th. That would be 6792 hours. Since every book takes its reader someplace, if the READ Team reads 6792 books, we’ll have gone to 6792 places. NOTE: We have adjusted this to allow for 9 hours of sleep each night. So our GOAL is actually 4245 books. That would be very difficult (if not impossible) for one person to do alone, but together we can do it! 4245 books. That’s our goal.

As of December 1st, students staff and students' families have read 1150 books.

How to join the READ Team. For the first book you read this school year fill out your "New Member on the READ Team" card (available in the library or by clicking here). Write your name, the date , book title, author, and where that book has taken you (also known as the setting) and put your card in the READ Team box in the library. Your READ card will be posted and added to our team score. Then, as you read additional books, complete “Score more for the READ Team ” cards which are also in the library, classrooms and here. (NOTE: It’s okay if two people have read the same book, because two people can go to the same place, and have different experiences.)

READ Team Positions. On our team will be:

  • Players – people who read!
  • Coaches – Mrs. Herbst and Mrs. Scaggs
  • Trainers – your teachers who help you learn to read!
In addition, players are needed to help the team as:
  • Managers – players willing to help with equipment (cut out red cards), putting up posters, setting up for events.
  • Recruiters – players who get other people on the team by making announcements, posters, and talking up the READ Team.
  • Cheerleaders – players who keep everyone motivated with enthusiasm, cheers, posters, etc.
  • Scorekeepers – players who track progress towards our goal.
  • Photographers – players who take photos of people…reading!
  • Reporters – players who report on our progress, tell where we’ve been, how many players are on our team, etc
Students interested in being a recruiter, manager, cheerleader, scorekeeper, or photographer should contact Mrs. Herbst.

Teams don't just play. They also:

  • Practice – at any time your teacher may ask you to practice your reading for the READ Team. If you not on the READ Team yet, still READ because practice is what gets you closer to being on the team!
  • Sometimes eat together - Throughout the year, READ Team members will receive READ Team snacks, and of course they will be RED.
  • Have pep rallies and support each other - We'll have these too, and even if you’re not on the READ Team, you’ll be invited to come and support the team.
  • Celebrate - As we reach milestones along the way to our goal, we’ll mark the occasion with some festivities.
  • Look like a team - There will be READ Team wear RED days throughout the year.
  • Can be interviewed - During pep rallies, library time or other times, reporters may interview players about books they've read.
The READ Team needs YOU! If you have any questions about joining or being on the team, please contact Mrs. Herbst.
