School Advisory Council Notes

In the hustle and bustle of the last week with our all of our minds on those six magic letters: “S-U-M-M-E-R”, it is hard to find time for prayer and reflection.  I was fortunate to find a few moments this weekend to reflect on this year which seems to have flown by.

I would like to thank each member of the School Advisory Council, Home and School Association and the School Finance Council and, of course, the Principal, Asst. Principal, and staff for their tireless efforts to provide a strong, faith-based, environment where our children can develop all facets of their being.  Together, we were able to accomplish the following:

• Filed Application for United States Department of Education “Blue Ribbon Award”  (We are currently in the finals and will be notified in September!)
• Restructured the SAC to have an Academic Chair, Grant Writing Chair, Marketing Chair, Communications Chair, Athletics and Facilities Chair in addition to the School Finance President, Home and School President
• Instituted the 4^th Sunday Masses
• Sponsored International Night in December 2005
• Sponsored the Father Daughter Dance in April 2006
• Received Grants from Best Buy, Meadows Foundation, IBM, Conn's Electronics
• Finalized 2006-07 Operating Budget
• Commenced review of all School Policies and Procedures
• Assisted All Saints Religious Education with First Communion and Confirmation Preparation
• Regular presence at Parish Advisory Council meetings

Next year, we look forward to receiving (say a prayer!) our Blue Ribbon Award, providing a monthly Enrichment Series on various topics of interest to our students, working closely with the Sports Advisory Board on the development of the athletic fields, and completing review of all school policies and procedures.

We say a fond goodbye and thank you to Rich Thomas for three years of service to the SAC.  Rich served as Vice-President and Grant Writing Chair and was a tremendous asset to our Council. Thank you to the Home and School for another fantastic and successful auction. Lastly, thank to all of the parents for your support and patience throughout the year.  The SAC and I look forward to serving the school and parish in the upcoming academic year.

It's the last chance for ASCS families to help us obtain $5,000 from Nickolodeon.  ASCS kids can submit to Nickelodeon's Let's Just Play Giveaway program - up until May 31, 2006 by giving the "Top 3 Reasons Why My School Needs More Play." Each entry must be hand-printed.
