/files/School Files/Cub Scouts/102_1.JPGThe Scouts are a 100-year-old national organization with the goal of education and building character development. Throughout the year, the boys work on projects with their friends and with their parents. Of course, we also go camping. The boys learn responsibility, skills, and much much more – but don’t tell them this because they think they are having fun.

/files/School Files/Cub Scouts/029.JPGIn the scouts, while the national organization provides help and a support structure, the local cub scout troop and boy scout pack manage their own local activities. Because of this, each local pack has its own unique personality and that personality changes as the pack grows.

Cub Scout groups are organized into Packs. The Pack associated with All Saints Catholic School is Pack 86. Pack 86 reports into the North Trail District of the Boys Scouts of America. The pack itself is divided into a group of dens.

  • /files/School Files/Cub Scouts/016.jpgJunior Cubs – Kindergarten boys. We wanted a program that allowed the All Saints boys to get a head start in Scouting in anticipation of becoming Tiger Cubs. While our Junior Cubs are not part of the national Cub Scout program, they participate in the pack level activities and have a less structured den environment more targeted at socialization.
  • Tiger Cubs - First-grade (or 7-year-old) boys. These boys participate in activities with an adult partner, usually a parent. Tiger Cubs emphasize shared leadership, learning about the community, and family understanding.
  • Wolves – Second grade boys (or are age 8). To earn the Wolf badge, a boy must pass 12 achievements involving basic physical and mental skills.
  • Bears – Third grade boys (or are age 9). There are 24 Bear achievements in four categories. The Cub Scout must complete 12 of these to earn the Bear badge. These requirements are somewhat more advanced and challenging than those for Wolf rank.
  • Webelos – Fourth and Fifth-grade (or 10-year-old) boys. Webelos Scouts participate in more advanced activities that begin to prepare them to become Boy Scouts.

/files/School Files/Cub Scouts/021.JPGPack 86 usually has a camping trip in the fall and spring, and is a regular participant in the Plano Christmas Parade, have a Pine Wood Derby, Blue & Gold Celebration, a Rocket Launch, and other pack level events. Pack level events are complimented by den meetings targeted to meet the needs of the den.
