Spanish - Elective

Middle School

Teacher: Ms. Saltzman

The Spanish Elective will focus on developing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills needed to functionally communicate. Cultural aspects of Spanish speaking countries will be presented to the students to help them learn more about the language through learning about Spanish speaking people.

6th Grade

The students will be able to demonstrate a proficiency in learned vocabulary and structures needed to communicate orally and in writing about school subjects, activities, schedules and surroundings, family, holidays and celebrations, likes and dislikes, personal preferences, and physical description of people. Structures will include conjugation of verbs and number/gender agreement of adjectives.

7th Grade

The students will be able to communicate, develop and refine proficiency using expressions and vocabulary about body parts, comment on clothes, describe people and make comparisons, talk about a house and the things in it, discuss eating habits and preferences, leisure activities and household chores and daily routines. Structures will include -ar, -er verbs, interrogatives, comparatives and superlatives, telling time and reflexive verbs.

8th Grade

The students will focus on speaking skills using correct grammar and pronunciation, they will be talking about sports and pastimes, professions, getting around the city and giving directions, travelling to different countries, arranging a trip, arriving at a hotel, changing money at a bank, going shopping and buying gifts. Structures will include present tense of ar, -er and ir verbs, irregular verbs, present progressive, direct object pronoun, indirect object pronoun, commands and demonstrative adjectives.
